A week in the making

There’s a saying that goes, “Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I completely understand that sentiment now. Since this morning, I’ve been working on my woodworking/carpentry business, and time has flown by. Not only am I learning through experience and creating things I’ve never made before, but I’m also having a lot of fun doing it.

My woodshop is in my backyard, and though I know I shouldn’t, I’ve been working barefoot. I just really enjoy being barefoot; if I don’t have to wear shoes, I prefer not to.

I woke up this morning at 5:50 a.m. and started working on my website. I wanted to ensure I could easily post updates from my phone. It took a while, but I eventually got it done. Afterward, I watched some videos to better understand how to use the WordPress content management system.

By 7:15 a.m., the dogs were up, and my wife was awake too. I came down from my office and made breakfast for everyone, including the dogs. After playing with them and getting them tired out, I put them back in their cages around 8:30 a.m. Then, I went back to my office to continue learning more about WordPress.

Around 9:00 a.m., I shifted my focus to the quail cage I’ve been working on since Monday.

I plan to sell these quail cages, so I’m painting them white to make them look good in the photos I’ll post online and on my website. However, the painting process is taking much longer than expected. Additionally, the plans and Facebook/YouTube videos I’ve been following aren’t as efficient as I’d hoped. I’ve noticed I’m making unnecessary mistakes and doing extra work that could be avoided.

I’ve been taking notes on these inefficiencies and plan to create my own set of instructions, along with a YouTube video, to share what I’ve learned. That way, I can benefit from my experiences and help others avoid the same mistakes.
