Clarity after noon

### August 7, 2024

Last night, I worked my usual shift at Home Depot and got home around 11:00 to 11:15 PM. After taking a shower, I went to bed and didn’t spend much time on my phone. I woke up at 7:30 AM, having slept only six hours, so I was a bit tired and sore from unloading the 18-wheeler at work. I got out of bed and made breakfast for my wife while she fed the dogs. After breakfast, I sat on the couch for about an hour and a half, playing with my phone and watching television.

Feeling guilty for not being out in my woodshop, I decided to get to work on the outdoor cedar storage. However, I remembered I needed to buy some jewelry for my wife. I drove to the nearby shopping center, bought the jewelry, and on my way home, stopped at Home Depot again. It feels like I’m always there now. I bought 12 pieces of 3/4 inch by 6 inch by 6 ft tall cedar picket fences, which cost about $40.

After loading the wood onto my truck, I drove home and gave my wife the jewelry, which she loved and was very grateful for. I also bought some new dog toys—a big ball and a couple of chew treats. I played with the dogs in the backyard, got some exercise, and then put them in their cage to rest. I unloaded the wood from my truck, but before cutting it, I cooked myself something to eat: chicken with butter and onions, which was delicious.

After eating and relaxing in the air conditioning for a bit, I put on my shoes, walked outside, and started measuring the boards I had just bought. Cutting the wood took longer than expected, but it was worth the effort to get perfect squared pieces. I then used a bar clamp and my 13-inch Ryobi belt sander to sand the material, removing the rough finish. This took even longer than cutting the wood, but it’s the price I pay for not having a drum sander.

As the sun began to set, I decided to shut down the shop. I moved all my tools—my table saw and chop saw—into the shed since I have to work outside due to space constraints. I brought my extension cord inside and connected it to the small window unit I installed a few weeks ago. While it doesn’t cool the space well during the day, it works fine at night. I need to insulate the attic part of the shed so I can use the air conditioner during the daytime and do computer work without waiting until late at night.

Now, at 11:00 PM, I end my day with great gratitude and love. I thank God for another day.
